The films are special in that they are created by, for, or about the deaf community. They span genres one might not expect of non-sound films, from documentary to drama, comedy and animation. The films have been submitted from the U.S., England, France, Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines, South Africa, and Mexico.

On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, members of the Deaf community gathered in Kane Hall for the first Seattle Deaf Film Festival to support each other, learn more about Deaf culture, and not simply see or hear, but feel the beauty conveyed in the array of stories and experiences portrayed in the films.

Deaf Spotlight will host the 2nd Seattle Deaf Film Festival (SDFF) on April 4-6, 2014 at the Northwest Film Forum. The committee is announcing an open call for film submissions from the Deaf community. At the end of the search, the selected films will be shown at the festival.



The Seattle Deaf Film Festival will be accepting submissions April 1, 2013 through September 30, 2013. Submissions postmarked after the closing date will not be accepted.  Additional information, eligibility guidelines and associated entry fees are available on the website.
